About us
The Clarkston congregation for established in 1983 and has been meeting at the Duff Memorial hall for the past twenty years. Our beliefs are based upon the New Testament teaching and example of the church in doctrine and worship.
Each member of the congregation is a baptized believer in Jesus Christ as God's anointed Saviour and Lord. Each individual who comes to trust in Jesus, that is to have faith in Him, has responded in obedience to the teachings of the New Testament in being baptised "for the forgiveness of sins" and has been raised from the waters of baptism to "live a new life" in Christ.
The church meets every "first day of the week" (Sunday) for the particular purpose of taking communion, sometimes known as "the Lord's Supper", the eating of bread and drinking of wine in remembrance of His death, burial and resurrection. Our communion service is accompanied by the singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs; prayer and the teaching of the Word of God from the pulpit.
Our life together as Christians is characterised by the development of cares and concerns that filled the earthly life of Jesus and are encouraged by the writings of His apostles in the New Testament. Praying together, sharing each other's burdens and working to spread the "Good News" of Jesus in the community and the world at large. We are also actively involved in supporting works in the U.K. and overseas where we might be able to contribute to the relief of needs and the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The ethos of the congregation is to be true to the teachings of the Bible in our sacraments (Baptism and Communion) and to allow The Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen our characters according to His will both as individuals and as a Spiritual, worshipping community. This ethos can only be established and strengthened by the participations of all members of the congregation giving of their means and talents as God has blessed us.
